Re: Skinnywater & mattttt25

Big of you to respond mattttt25.I think we all get too passionate occasionally.

On a really ironic note as to the dog discussion and SoulWinner. My wife and I were coming home from fishing this past weekend and drove by the small Christian church near our neighborhoods entrance. The minister of the church has a marquis by the roadside that he changes weekly that usually has some words of wisdom. This week it read "Please allow me to be the person that my dog thinks I am." This is not intended to rekindle any hard feelings as this was a thread intended to mend fences.Just thought it was ironic and wanted to share it with you guys.Peace,out. :)

I live next door to some folks that have a 14 year old golden retriever that has always run loose. The dog has arthritis so bad he can hardly get up, he can't hear, he can bearly see. He has red mange and all he does is lay around and lick himself till he bleeds and he smells so bad no one can stand to be around him. These are good people but they won't put the dog down because they don't have the heart to do it and their 14 year old son will cry. I feel sorry for the dog....What would yall do???

Efhenry, I would call the Humane sociaty s/p? They will determine if the dog needs to be put down but from what you wrote I would say it would. If I was deaf, blind with mange, stinking and licking myself till I bled I would hope that somebody would do something about it. Right now I am only a few of those things so I think Im safe.

If it were mine, I'd put him down myself. Since its your neighbor, and he would rather the dog live in misery instead of allowing his son to grow up, I would try the humanes sociaty (anonamously). People need to be responsible with their pets. It is very unhealthy for humans to be forced to live among that.

Okay its my turn now...let me duck down a bit before I send this......okkkkkk!

PS(edit) I wish I could type faster, or could spell either way :D

A vet has already told them that the dog isn't going to get better. THey were taking it to get dipped twice a week and Mr. Neighbor asked the vet if it was helping and the vet told him.....you need to let old Max go. They quit taking him to the vet.

Oh that's easy! Just recommend that efhenry shoot his neighbor's dog! That should get things fired up! :D

Seriously, nothing is more inhumane than to let a poor animal suffer like that. They should be ashamed! They seem very selfish. Given the poor condition of the dog I am sure the kid does not even go near the poor thing.

efh - dangit i was just skimming around, trying to catch up on the latest from my .... uh, i guess i could call y'all my brethren :D lol

now this is sad.

i'd probably go overboard & really try to have a discussion with them, since the vet aint making it happen. jeez, is that dog that bad? if so, then i'd probably do something. i won't say put it down yourself, cause that is not for you to do - but it could very well be your position- if they couldn't do it themselves.... dam man, how about going into a backyard discussion with all the memories of the dog? you know what i mean?

i'm getting off on another tangent - maybe its a situation of live & let die...

Re: Skinnywater & mattttt25

I have had to put 3 dogs down in my life and I tell you it was some of the hardest moments of my life but to look at them suffering was worse. I have a hard time seeing any critter suffer and I honestly couldnt stand having that poor dog around like that. In all honesty you taking matters into your own hands seems more humane then
to let it suffer, but on the other hand it is thier dog and you #1 could get in trouble with the law #2 make enemies if you got caught
It would probably be relief to them when it was over. If its not, well they probably shouldnt own a dog.

efhenry asks,
What would yall do???
Given the circumstances maybe some diplomacy.
1. Rent (or buy) Old Yeller, for them.
2. Offer to take Max for a ride. Out to the woods to be put down, or to the Vet.

And offer to help find another pup in the spring.

Wow, been away for a short while, busy with stuff, and come back to find all kinds of stuff going on.

Favorite Church Marquis: Sign Broken, Messege Inside!

On the poor sick doggy, I think everyone has seen this to one degree or another. Every pet owner and situation being different, compassion for the dog should go before the feeling of a 14 year old who hasn't learned the differece between his own selfishness and compassion for the suffering of a dog.

Thanks mikeandronda for help bring peace between me and Ralph. Ralph, thanks for helping me to think three times before I post :)

ob, skinny, mattt, hope you guys get the tee-shirts.

BTW, I spoke to a fellow named Ronnie that other night while ministering in the bar. He has devoted a chunk of his life to performing King Diamond/Merciful Fate in his King Diamond tribute bands. After talking with him for a few minutes, he was stuck to me like glue for the rest of night and wanted to hear more about the Lord from a guy who actually knew the lyrics to his favorite band (King Diamond is a satanist who sings about satanic worship, human sacrifice, infanticed etc.) Anyway, the Lord made some progress in his heart, and I hope to stay in touch with him to help him along the path :)

Re: Skinnywater & mattttt25

Mr. Neighbor came down lastnight just for a visit and Old Max, dutiful as he is, followed his master down. I asked Mr. Neighbor when he was going ot put Max out of his misery and he told me I was going to have to do it cause he didn't have the heart to. I told him I couldn't do it (I really could) but that his wife and kids would hate me forever. I did tell him I'd help him load the dog up and take him to the vet's office. Thats as far as I can take it.
