sleepy boat

My 89' OMC Cobra with the 2.3L is hard to start. Once I get it warmed up it, and shut it off, it starts right back up straight away with no hesitation. Just starting it when its been sitting for a little while takes some pampering with the carb ( i.e opening the "butter fly" and dabbing the throttle). Had carb rebuilt 3 weeks ago, and it DID do it before i had it rebuilt as well.
anything i can do to help it fire up when i get to the lake, or is it just old and need pampering? thanks in advance.

Re: sleepy boat

It is probably normal. Carbed boats dont start like fuel injected cars. They usually take a few pumps of the throttle to get fired up until warm.

Re: sleepy boat

I have a 1989 merc 305 with a 4 bbl rochester carb.
To start it I pump the throttle 4 times and turn the key. It fires right up!:D After it is warmed up it will fire right up without pumping. Your symptom is probably normal for the carb.
