Slipping

I have a1993 48horse Evinrude it runs fine until I get above half throttle, once I get it under a load, it just acts like it kicks into neutral and rev up very high. As soon as I get back down to half throttle, it runs fine again what could be some of the problem?

Prop hub bushing is slipping.. do a quick google search on confirming this, then get a new prop, used prop, or have yours ‘re-hubbed’ at prop shop.

Try another prop.----Those lower units are NOT robust and gears strip / break teeth all the time.----Drain gear oil.---Inspect for metal bits.----Put in the factory recommended oil.
