I downsized to a 12ft Alumacraft ( 160 lbs ) and I,m thinking about buying the small boat trailer ( 76 lbs ) that Harbor Freight sells. My question is how safe and what speed can I travel towing this? Thanks Peco

Don't know the trailer of which you speak but if it a commercially built trailer then there should be no problem with hi-way speeds as long as the boat is secured to the trailer properly.

Good rule of thumb with Harbor Freight. Always buy x3 the rating you need or be prepared to beef up whatever your buying if possible. ie if you need a 2ton jack, buy the sixton!

Re: Small boat trailer

I had the Harbor Freight small boat trailer for a while when I had my 14' Valco aluminum boat. I NEVER had a problem with it, and towed it safety at interstate speeds a few times. I put it together in one night. It worked flawlessly for me inasmuch as a trailer is supposed to. About the only thing I added to it was a winch for ease of retrieval.

I can't speak to its longevity, as I sold the Valco about two years ago. The trailer was only about a year old when I did, and still as new as the day I assembled it.

It looks like a fairly good trailer and for your boat you really don't need much. As home cooking said as long as you get the boat balanced well, and secured properly I don't think you should have any problems.
