Hi.

Not so much a problem but a query.

I bought a new 2.3hp Honda outboard yesterday for my dinghy used on local rivers. The dealer suggested it is safe to use in the sea and I wondered if this is really the case. I'd be very grateful for your suggestions and views.

Many thanks,

Andrew

Re: Small outboards and the sea?

My Experience with small outboards and the sea is with sailboats

J-24(easy to move 24' boat) with 6 HP that will move around 6 MPH

Problem number one at least here is the currents in many areas runs at 5 MPH requireing that you plan to travel with the tides or go REALLY SLOW ;)

Problem number two is when it gets to windy to sail can the motor still move the boat

I hope you not going out in much weather with a motor that small

I think it depends on the size of boat and the weather / currents you are planning to go out in. A little scary to me though.

Yall, I could be mistaken, but I think he is more concerned about how well it will take the salt.

Re: Small outboards and the sea?

Many thanks for your replys. I see my honda has an anode block, it could well be just the case it is suitable for salt water but not necessary the sea. I have a 12 foot rib inflatable just for leisure use and only used on local rivers so far. Just intrigued by the idea of taking a small outboard out into the open sea in any conditions. Cheers, Andrew
