Re: Smallest boat to make it to marthas Vineyard

I went to the vineyard on a freinds 24' boat, we left falmouth and I asked "whats that land there"
he said "thats the vineyard".

Its literally 20 minutes when calm, if rough you better wait.
Guys take their kayaks there, it ain't far.

The day we went over you could have zipped across in a small tinny 25hp.

If I had to put a minimum number on it , 18 feet is a decent size with good power and a good kicker.
If going out of Westport I'd drag the trailer down to the cape.

The experience of the skipper and the weather conditions are important factors.

Today, a 39 foot sail boat needed a pilot to escort them into our harbor. seas were pretty big but the skipper and crew were not up to speed with the conditions, navigation, basic seamanship and were clueless.

By sending a launch out, we were proactive and did not have to salvage them off the rocks.

As the season comes to an end in New England, the troubles get bigger.

Both about the same size but as you can see, length doesn't always tell the entire story. I know which one I'd choose out there. :D
