Hi all. Any have experience with using Smart Tabs on a small (14 hp FG CC) with a 25 hp or so. Not that it rides with any real problem, since it is a rather narrow boat, it tends to sway side to side. I thought these might take a little of the squirrellies away. Any thoughts?

Re: Smart Tabs, small boat question

Hi Reka12,

I have an Ex coastguard 13' Avon Searider rib (rigid hull inflatable) with smart tabs on them. They have improved the ride and planing as well as overall performance of my boat significantly. If you want to minimize the sway of your boat I am quite certain these trim tabs would work great for you.

I'm sure Nautijohn will respond to your message soon enough to help with the details.

Boatster.

Thanks! I have seen them on RIBs before. I really considered a RIB as the seem to be stable, functional and fun. I look forward to Nautijohns input as well as other boaters that have them on small fishing craft.

Re: Smart Tabs, small boat question

reka12;

Small boats most often do not have room for the hydraulic or electric components and the pricing is a bit much when compared to the boat cost, so we desided to make smart tabs for boats as small as 9 ft.

I would recommend the ST980-30 for your boat. The ride and handling improvements will be beyond your expectations.

Thanks nautiJohn! ST980-30 it is. The bottom of the boat at the transome is only 50" wide. Is that still ok?

The trim tabs are only 8.5" wide so you should have no problem.
