I have not decided what kind of trim tab system I want to put on my boat. My main goal for using trim tabs are for slower plane speeds and bow drop at higher speed displacement speeds. I also like the idea of automatic trim tabs. My cruiser probably weighs around 6500 lbs or so and is powered by two 260 HP stringers which gives a top cruising speed of 40 MPH at 3500 RPMs. The beam is also only 8.5 feet which only gives me 16 inches of area I can mount a tab (If I don't include the chine area).
The only reason I would consider using the Bennett trim system is to adjust about a 5 degree port list I have at planing moderate speeds that tends to more or less correct itself with more speed. By putting two passengers and a fat dog on the starboard side of the boat I was able to get rid of most of the list. As I have ample room on this boat I do believe that by moving my hot water heater and batteries that I can correct the list.
I am leaning towards using the smart tabs, but I need to know if having a list on such a large and fast boat is a danger first.
