Is it worth $100-$125 or so to add Smart tabs on a 20' center console? I understand it will get on plane quicker and at a lower speed. Is anyone experienced in using these? Thanks

Do a search on "smart Tabs". You will get many hits and most of them very positive.

Re: Smart tabs

I have a Sea Pro SV1900 which is 19' 6" long. I installed a set of Smart tabs and I feel it offered an improvement worth well more than the cost of the Smart Tabs. Quicker on plane, less porpoising(sp?) etc. Just an all around improvement and I think for the small cost you'll be very happy. And they are adjustable, just not on the fly..just try and keep fat girls outta your boat and you shouldn't have a problem there!! ;)

Re: Smart tabs

BTW, just cause I want to maintain my whole story here. I love Smart Tabs too. Any tab is better than no tab at all, even fixed, but let's not go there . . . Doh! Annnnnnnd, there are very few things, that have such a positive impact on a boat that are also so easy to install. They really are simple once you get past drilling holes in the transom.

Re: Smart tabs

Ok,
You all have convinced me....I'm getting "smart tabs" (the ones that are only worth $1000), sorry QC. Can't beat the price of the "SX" style here on IBOATS.
Only $120. just to give them a shot.
My question is what to seal the holes with....3M-5300 or 4200?
I've heard pro's and con's on both. Any thought's?

Re: Smart tabs

As John said, 4200, I may have went a little overboard when I installed mine but I did not want a leak, I put 4200 in the holes as well as on the screws, I have no leaks. By the way, that drilling the first hole below the water line is the worst part, after that one it gets better. Measure at least twice before drilling, you do not want to drill in the wrong place. Enjoy, I for one do not think you will ever want to change out for helm controlled tabs, they are that good.
