Smartcraft alarm two beeps per minute

I have a 2001 Mercruiser 496 Mag, standard output, Serial #OM061853 with Bravo II (OM124690) with Smartcraft Tach and Speedo. I get an alarm where I get two rapid beeps every minute. There are no text messages on my Smartcraft Tach or Speedo and the engine seems to run fine.

I've recently had a high oil pressure reading, with no alarm of any kind, and my mechanic replaced the Oil Pressure Sensor (as opposed to Sender). This seems to have fixed the oil pressure problem.

Now I'm getting the two beeps/minute. The mechanic said the "codes" did not indicate anything wrong.

I've bought and borrowed all the manuals I can find, Mercruiser and Seloc, and poured over the sensors and wiring to no avail. I guess I should get the codes read again.

Can anybody suggest what I might look for in the ECM code readout?
Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Smartcraft alarm two beeps per minute

One of the guys on one of the other boards was getting 2 beeps a minute on his 496/Smartcraft.

Hooked it up to Diacom and it showed a history of intermittent MAP sensor readings. He unplugged and replugged the connector to the MAP sensor and it became happy again - no more beeps.

MAP sensor on a 496 is under the cover towards the back of the manifold. Might be worth a try, won't cost anything.

Re: Smartcraft alarm two beeps per minute

Just remembered I had these Smartcraft code readouts on my computer. Somebody here on the forum sent them to me a while back, wish I could remember who it was! Looks like 2 beeps/min can be a lot of things, although the only fault that won't show up on a SystemScan is the MAP sensor.

I don't know why the mechanic would not be able to tell you exactly what the problem was. All fault/alarm events are stored in the Freezframe Memory where you can tell what they were, when they occured, how many times they occured, and it gives you a snapshot of the other engine data when they occured.

Is your "mechanic" an actual Mercruiser certified dealer with all the necessary troubleshooting tools? Or just someone that happens to work on Mercruisers and really doesn't understand the new systems? There are a LOT of those type out there.

The only way you can work on the 555 engines is with either a DDT or DiaCom. THE ONLY WAY.
