Smoke 1987 88 SPL

When I start my 1987 88 SPL with the muffs kinda smoky, haven't really run it alot the past couple years but do start it up and had it out last week. Is it burning off the fogging oil (how long does that take to burn it off?) is there an oil/Fuel mixture screw or adjustment? I have a manual. Also I wanna work on this in off season, is it hard to get back into tip top shape? carb rebuild maybe and what else? or should I put in shop, I'm looking for someone to help me (NJ) or should i save my money for newer? I'm happy with the performance of this engine though

Fogging oil will burn off almost instantly i.e. within seconds. Your 88 SPL doesnt have automatic oil injection (VRO) so there is no oil adjustment. You should be premixing gas and oil at a 50/1 ratio, if you put too much oil in the gas it will smoke more.

If the boat sits for awhile inbetween starts thry can be smoky on intial start up. This is due to fuel evaporation in carbs leaving oil behind. When you pump the bulb it fills the bowls with fresh fuel but there is still a higher concentration of oil left from previous running. In effect you are double oiling or so for a minute or two. Normal and expected on a two stroke.

You'll notice more smoke when running your motor on muffs or in a barrel. You won't see much smoke when you run it on the water
