Had been wanting to quit smoking for quite a while. Been Smoking for about 8 years. (I'm 24 now) Have tried to quit many many times in the past. Thursday I Stopped. 2:00 am was my last one before going to bed.

When I had thought I had quit a couple years ago, I told a friend of mine "I quit smoking" after a few days.... He responded "Good, now tell me that a year from now" I never was able to tell him that.

I've got a totally different mind set this time around though, I feel I Finally want it bad enough for myself.

No patches, no cheating, havn't even had a drag.

Anyone else out there quitting?

I WILL WIN!

I'm in the process of quitting too. This is day #4. My last one was Thursday morning at about 8:30. I've smoked for 14 years, it's time to give it up. I've tried quitting before, but like you said ndemge, I've got a whole new motivation this time. I want to quit, I'm not quitting because someone wants me to this time. I am gonna win also!

I am also on day 4. I have 3 kids who I am tired of their seeing me sneak outside to have a smoke after dinner. I am on the weak patch, so as my wife won't shoot me. I am not even telling my wife and kids; I just want to 3 months from now say, "by the way I havent smoked for a while". Good luck guys.

Good luck guys. Its not so hard, If I can do it
so can you. :p
You just have to want to quit, more than you
want to smoke. Cold Turkey is best.

8am this morning was my last. Went to target and got the patch. It has been almost 12 hours now and I have not even come close to killing anyone so the patch must not be a placebo. Hope it works this time. I have two kids and am the only smoker in a business that has 12 employees.

Eurolarva, I used the patch six years ago. It was real passive in that you had no sensation of anything happening, just that you did not have the craving. I always threatened (in jest) to slap one on one of my kids. You give nicotene to someone who does not have it in their system and they'll be flying high in a hurry.

Don't short the program. run the whole routine except don't buy the next step patches. buy the first step patches then cut them in half. For the third step cut the remaining half patches in half again. It's a lot cheaper that way.

Good Luck, with the patches and a modicum of desire, you will quit and stay that way. I smoked for 32 years. Two packs a day.

I wonder how Topmason is doing. He's been pretty quite on the subject.

Good luck fellas. My wife told me I could get the boat I wanted if I quit. Now I've got a new Lund in the yard. Was off them for 3 months and somehow I'm back. I feel like I'm cheatin on her with another woman. I'm gonna hafta try again. After 26 years it's a mighty powerful pull. Best of luck to all of you. Maybe we should keep a thread going as a group support.

I smoked for 37 years the last 2 years I was at 4 packs a day. quit cold turkey 7 years ago. Had had any craving at all. The best part is after about a month Food actually started to have flavor. Stick with it you will love the the health benefits gained by not smoking. Rick

Don't use terms like 2:00am or 5 days or Thursday... It sounds like your are counting the days and missing out on something :p Your "Cold turkey" approach is the best. You should think of
all the negative things that smoking provides.. like car odours, money spent, smoke drifting into eyes when driving.. lack of fitness.. etc.
I gave up about 10 years ago and don't miss them..
Gave up alcohol too about 5 years ago..
My wife gave up the same way as you .. Just stopped. My Brother-in-law was a very heavy smoker and used those smoke reducing tips.. but just got tired of no smoke coming out the end and gave up. Try rewarding yourself each week with something you like but don't do often, like a meal at a nice resturant..

Keep at it You will win ... :D

Congratulations and keep smoke free! You will beat the habit one day at a time. As unicorn said - don't count the days or hours. It will seem like an eternity for you. Keep looking ahead and looking forward to not stinking up a room when you walk in, breathing, tasting food, and hopefully, living longer! Keep at it, you can do it!

They have quite the aroma to them!

Congrats!

H.

Way to go, ndemge.

Had a close call today. Searching through my desk and I found a pack of butts. Started thinking bad thoughts like, "well I bought them before I quit" and "if I smoke just one I'll realize how bad they taste and really want to quit", and lame stuff like that. Tossed them in the trash, and it was very hard to do that. I'm getting about two really bad cravings a day, drink a quart of water and they go away. I am hacking up some really nasty stuff too, must be my lungs saying "thank-you".

Keep it up guys. Everyone here loves a success story and is supporting you. I started a regimine of sit-ups this year and i feel better every day. I don't smoke but I got a gut I have to get rid of and sit-ups are the answer

Re: Smoke Free, Day 5

No alcohol for one month. Holidays got a bit overwhelming and turned me into a basketcase and I turned to the ol' wine bottle. Threw that bottle away Dec. 29th and haven't bought anymore. I feel sooo much better.
Still running with Hubby 6 days a week. It's getting easier, but those track/cross country days were sure along time ago. To think I could run a 5:30 mile. No way now.
Still having one cig. on the way and on the way home from work. Should really stop, but can't seem to do it yet. Hubby's been smokeless for over a year and would like me to stop too, but is understanding. (I would smoke a pack in one evening of drinking, so this is a big improvement). So, keep up the good health habits all. We'll do it!!

Way to go gang......
I quit about a year ago, 3 pack a day habit.
I got Wellbutrin from my doctor to help me. It cut the cravings for the first week, plus its a anti-depressent, I didnt give a crap about anything that week.
I still get the urge but I think of the MONEY savings, heck, quitting smoking is paying for my boat.
I spent about 150.00 a month on cigarrettes.

Keep at it guys were all with you. :D
