Just started my engine which hasn't been started for about 18 months and it has heaps of smoke and there is a layer of oil in my water tank :( is this normal? I have a mixture of 50mls oil - 1 litre of gas?...all help will be appreciated before we go out in it....

Hmmmmm.....

I'm no expert with that vintage but I believe it uses either a 16:1 or 24:1 fuel/oil ratio. Smoke and gunk in a barrel isn't unusual. Using TCW3 or even a synthetic TCW3 oil may help but I'd still recommend the old oil ratio. Those motors have plain bearings in them and need more oil. Plus they don't seem near as bad running on a boat.

Normal - smoke will decrease once you run it awhile. Oily gunk in test tank is normal.
