I have a 135HP Evinrude Starflite, model no. 135483B, serial no. 98916, it has a very bulky tilt trim system consisting of two hydraulic rams mounted either side of the motor. After a dayout on the water and on return to the beach I flicked the tilt up switch for trailering, at that point the switch was transformed to a smouldering blob of plastic goo. Once home I replaced the switch, however on opertaion there is no responce from the T/T motor in one direction and in the other I get the click of the relay and a slow grinding noise from the motor. Im not sure if the motor has fragged itself or it is possibly a fault in the relay, any ideas anyone?. Is it advisable to directly connect the T/T motor to the power supply to confirm operation. If it is "good night nurse" for the motor does any one know the replacement part number or can suggest where I might be able to obtain one. Many thanks for your assistance.

That should be the old 3 wire motor. You should have a blue, green and black wire from the T/T motor. Hook the black to ground. Blue (sky) is up and green (grass) is down. Touch either to the battery positive to go the respective direction.<br /><br />Any dealer should be able to get you a replacement motor if needed. An aftermarket unit from Arco will work if the OE motor is no longer available.<br /><br />Good luck!

Checked the electric motor, I got a low grinding sound in one direction and just a whole load of sparks comming off the battery terminal in the other. Took the motor apart and found one of the connections to the field coil had melted, this probably was causing the short, will replace and see if it works.<br /><br />Thanks dm

In the future if possible, use an extension wire off of the battery post. Excessive sparks above the battery could cause an explosion. And then you would have to buy a new battery

And the bill from the plastic surgeon for fixing your face from the hydrogen/sulfuric acid explosion would be astronomical
