Snapped bolt where Horseshoe Anode is housed. What do I do?

I was taking off my lower unit with a friend on my 1985 90HP Johnson and I broke off 1 of the 2 bolts that connect the horseshoe anode to the lower unit.

I house my boat on my driveway and only take my boat out on weekends. I will eventually get the broken off bolt taken care of by a mechanic but am I safe to take my boat out with a broken screw that is flush to the lower unit?

Can I also just go ahead and put my anode back on with one bolt and use epoxy to connect the flush bolt with the anode for now?

I live in Florida and will be taking my boat out on the Destin Bay. Thanks, I'm new to boating...been a fisherman all my life but owning a boat, an old one at that is a new world to me.

Thanks Y'all!

Dave

Welcome to iboats!:welcome:

I wouldn't use epoxy; it will be too much of a pain to remove the anode. Sand the anode a bit all over, and attach it with the one bolt and a little dab of something like 3M 4200. Frankly, since you apparently don't leave the boat in the water a lot, you wouldn't have much of a problem if you just left the anode off. This is especially true if you tilt the motor up between trips while it's in the water .

If you don't leave it in the water go boating and don't worry about it. That is called crevice corrosion. Normal for stainless. My guess you haven't changed them in years.Don't use anti-seize on the next bolts either. It will cause corrosion

I know I have a lot of work and reading to do...I just bought the old motor and boat. It's my first boat and I just got stationed here in the Gulf of Mexico Waters...Man, I love it. Much appreciated for all the replies! thx for welcoming me to the iboat community.

Thx for the heads up on using the 3M 4200. I just do not have much knowledge...but its been great reading up and finding out how to care and maintenance the boat. Thx!
