So do Cobra's have a trim limit or not?

I could have swore I read on here a couple times that cobra's do not have trim limit and only a sender.

Well today I decided to see what my trim sender looked like or if it was even still hooked up as my gauge is pegged up all the time. (it twitches when I use the trim).

I took the trim sender off and it was corroded very very bad. then I looked at the other side of the drive and there is a spot for another sender...... or is it the trim limit?

Heres some pics.

No trim limit, the sender is for gauge only.

What is the thing on the other side for? Maybe to mount the sender on either side? Or maybe they were thinking about putting a limit in? Or maybe who knows?

Are you talking about the pivot bolt? Of course you have one on each side.

Um no. below the bolt where there is a hole and you can see a screw hole on the bottom of the hole. Thats where the trim sender goes on the starboard side. I took it out today. there is the same exact size hole with the same screw hole also on the port side.

Here.

This is where I removed the sender from the starboard side. Same spot is on the port side which is why U was wondering.

Ahhh...later I believe they were mounted on the pivot bolt like the Volvo SX.

When I had my Cobra, it didn't even have a trim gauge so the sender was either not hooked up or not even there. I never missed having it.

Yea I was just looking at it to see if it was even there. The gauge goes stuck to almost all the way up and only flickers when I use the trim.

So I was just seeing what was going on with the sender when I saw the wires to the sender were corroded.
I took it off and found that it will be almost impossible to fix since the wires are corroded through right where they enter the sender.

And I tried testing it with my multi meter and I dont even think the thing is working correctly anyways. I might end up just getting a new one sometime.

I can just use my V gauge to know when its all the way down when Im moving because it goes a little lower when it hits the bottom.

Your grounding straps are missing.
Here's a picture of what it should look like.

My brother just got a Cobra yesterday. I wanted to warn him about running it while raised if it's at all like an alpha. Would that be off base? Sorry to hijack.

Then don't.

If you have a question, start a new thread and ask it.

@NHGuy Start your own thread.

@a70eliminator I have both grounding straps but they are hooked up on something else. I forget right now but will look when I go to the boat.

Kinda weird that the port side is exactly the same as the starboard side where the trim sender goes. Why would they make the port side the same and where the trim sender goes on the starboard side if it was just meant to bolt the grounding straps on?

But I do have the grounding wires hooked to the out drive I have to look but I saw both of them before. I will take pics and re post.

There are several other mounting points, the grounding cable spiders out and branches off to about 4 different locations, they are illustrated in the service manual. It's getting late and dark out but tomorrow I can snap another photo or two showing the other locations. I have no clue why it's cast to accept another trim sensor.

Re: So do Cobra's have a trim limit or not?

K thanks!

My bait is in the water right now but I am gonna have them pull it tom or wed and then I can take some pics.

I for sure know there are 2 grounding straps attached to the drive. I got my oem manual now too. I will have to look where the part is that talks about the different strap locations.

Its weird to me that they would make both sides of the drive have a spot where a sender could go. But who knows. Just looks weird when one side has a sender bolted on and the other side is empty.

My senders wires were corroded so bad the wire was corroded in half. I am gonna order a new one. My gauge is always pegged at all the way up so I'm hoping my gauge is good and it's just the sender.

I might wait until this winter to do this. I can tell when my trim is all the way uo or down by my V gauge.

I would like to have my trim gauge for when I am using the trim while under way though.

Will post pica when I can tom or wed though.

Thanks
