Re: Social Dilemna

Despite my poorly posed scenario, you're definately on the right track regarding my intent. It's about Big Brother legislation and when it becomes socially acceptable, if it can. It's also an attempt to illustrate the negative effects it can have on innocents. I was trying to keep the current situation on the back burner, yet keep it in play. Regardless of my clumsy attempt, I like the results so far. :)

Alas, many of you seem willing to put this unfortunate etrepeneur in the poor house and sacrifice about a dozen hardworking and loyal employees to the unemployment line. But let the chips fall where they may. ;)

Here's a fun one for ya. My wife worked at our local library. There were computers there for the public to use. Due to the freedoms we all enjoy, people could come in there and spend the day looking at pornography on the computers, while taking random bathroom breaks. Unless it was child pornography, nothing could be done. The complaints were endless from parents whose kids would see this stuff. The purveyors o' porn were able to get past any filtering that was attempted. There just was no way to legally keep these people from doing what they do, as baffling as that sounds, because of what a library is. That whole freedom of speech and thing and all.

And yes, I would dime out anybody doing the choices you present in your poll if a proper legal warrant was presented to me.

Yes I would. Unlike you, I still have faith the the average American. And If they had a warrant, wouldn't the same person have to offer up the information? So the difference between us is that you woulsdHAVE to see the warrant, where I would would use common sense? Do they not have to honor the warrant? Please enlighten me oh smart one.

Quote off-------------

Well, Let's see, our constitution is built around the rule of law, and the rule of law is interpreted by our judiciary system, not our average citizens, even if they happen to be librarians.

Get a warrant, issued by a judge, or stay out of my business. It is called freedom, my freedom and yours, and it is supposedly what we are fighting to protect.

A client - video store manger transaction is not protected like Dr. - patient or lawyer - client. Neither is librarian - reader. If you are REALLY suspicious of somebody's behavior, turn the info into the cops. If i were to withhold information i know about some evil clown because of some imagined principle such as they have a right right to privacy to protect illegal behavior, then I feel I would be aiding and abetting.

LOL... the Librarians in this neck of the woods use an out dated system that doesn't keep track of who read what.... K, it needs a bit of help from them, delete history.

Gotta love them ladies, they do it on principle.

Some docs are doing the same thing. There are patient records and then there are patient records, just like businesses that keep two sets of books.
