Solas vs. Quicksilver

Chewed up a prop yesterday. Replaced a Solas with the same size and pitch Quicksilver. Noticable difference in performance. Jumps up on plane quicker. I was surprised. Wonder why?

Simplistic answer, sorry, but because the Merc/Quicksilver prop took things into consideration that Solace obviously didn't. Not that either brand is negligent or anything like that. It's just that maybe one mfgr. concentrated on one set of parameters and the other others and just so happens that Merc hit upon the ones that are important to you and your application.

How's the midrange, top end, and other characteristics compare?

Midrange is better. Because I'm mostly on Lake Erie I haven't had it wide open all season. Had a problem a couple of weeks ago where the prop was cavitating under heavy load. Felt like it was spinning on the hub. I think there might have been more wrong with that prop than I thought.

That can happen, especially under heavy loads. Once they start, I wouldn't trust them.
