Mixed feelings here as I only sold it because I was ready for a different style boat. The one I sold was a bass boat and I'd like to get an aluminum with a deeper V. Still it was kinda sad watching another of my "projects" rolling away behind another excited new owner.

I hated watching my bass boat roll away behind another truck, but smiled when i thought of there response when they hit full throttle.never forget the first time going 70 skimming on 1in pad.

I actually took him out for a water test and let him drive. He was already sold, but that sealed the deal.

Two boats to look at tomorrow. A 16" Smokercraft and a 17" Starcraft. The funny thing is,I thought about down-sizing. I should have known better. I guess my 25hp tiller will sit on the stand for another stretch. I'm putting together a 1960 Merc 6hp that I picked up to use for a trolling motor.

Re: Sold another boat....

UPDATE: I liked the style of both boats, but there were problems with both. The starcraft was a project in progress so I passed on that. I don't need anymore projects, at least not major ones. The smokercraft had a ton of potential. The 50hp Merc was super clean, had 120 across the board for compression and had been taken care of. The boat needed a new interior(seats, carpet) which is no big deal, but I found some bad spots in the transom. I've replaced them before and had no problems, but I'm just not ready for that right now. I've got a tractor that needs a carb rebuild, a patio that needs to be redone and multiple honeydoos so I passed on that one even though I could have gotten it for a great price. Well, another Smokercraft tomorrow....18' with a 90hp rude.

Re: Sold another boat....

the Starcraft I looked at today was total junk! I'm surprised at how many people don't own a boat cover. I was told "It runs great, all we ever did was gas and go". I guess thats why the bottom of the boat under the floor was covered with grime. When I looked at the prop, it looked like a beaver had chewed it. The owner told me it had always been like that and worked fine. Thats when I politely declined and left.

What's your price range. The SmokerCraft will look more like a fishing boat and give the impression that it's built better but it's not. The Starcraft is probably the better built boat that will take a lot of abuse. Problem is that they usually have. It's tough finding the right one so just keep walking away until you find the right one.

FYI I got so disgusted that I decided to build my own from scratch. Then the economy changed and it was cheaper to buy new. Might be something to think about.

sschefer I enjoy building my own boats and would have no problem doing it again if everything else I have going on allowed for the time it had in the past. My problem is I'm too eager to jump on a project so I'm forcing myself to show a little restraint this time! :)

Re: Sold another boat....

cockpit.jpgoB.jpgMirro.jpgOK I found what I was looking for. I bought a 16' Mirrocraft. It has PTT, remote controlled trolling motor on the front, Live-well, rod-locker, fish-finder and a super clean 40hp Merc. Its a 1989 and I bought it from the original owner. Two new batteries and I'm ready to go!

Does the same logic apply to finding the right woman? For some reason that bit of advice re: boats seemed to resonate on this end. Wisdom is found in the most interesting places..

Re: Sold another boat....

MrBigStuff, I have a larger boat for the big water, I wanted something for the inland lakes. Try this, strap an RC to each foot and see if you can ski! :)
