This is the reason you use tinned marine wire.

Even good quality fully tinned marine wire suffers...

He is just trying to tin the wires at the ends going into his tach and remote! Tin it up and move on....:)

As with everything what you do with your boat is up to you and you alone.

( And yeah just like was posted Solder shall not be the sole means of mechanical connection in any circuit. Boat builders that can afford to do it any way they want do it which way???)
