Re: Soldering that big ole wire

Originally I tried a large gun but it wouldn't heat the wire enough. I am using a torch now. Could that be the problem?

What kind of torch? Can you turn the flame down or does it have 1 fixed (WFO) setting?

My auto-light torch would never work to solder wires as the flame is huge. But, my old adjustable torch works fine since you can turn down the flame pretty low, the size of a sharpened pencil, about a 3/4" long flame.

It is an auto light torch. Made by Lenox and the flame is huge. I have a smaller torch that should work. I saw a small pencil style butane torch at a hardware store the other day. I wonder if I should try that.

Re: Soldering that big ole wire

I finally have this figured out. It's actually not that hard with a little practice. I bought a small butane pencil torch and used the right solder and it came out beautiful. I have a new question though. My brother is buying a brand new Motor Guide 75 lb thrust 24 volt trolling motor. I plan on helping him wire it up. My question is: What does a brand new motor come with wiring wise? Is it just the two wires with no connections? A plug? How do they send it?

I have never owned a brand new trolling motor so I have no clue. The only info Motor Guide gave is that it comes with a 4 foot power cord. What does that mean??
