Can you guys tell me what the "other" little terminal is for on the 4 post solenoids? One of those comes from the starter, but in most applications from what I understand, nothing hooks up to that other little terminal. Is it a ground terminal?
Most solenoids have two large terminals. One comes from Battery Pos. The other goes to the large post on the starter motor. If you have two small terminals, one will likely be marked "I" or "S" (ignition or start). The wire that connects there should be hot only when the key is in the start position. The other terminal may be marked "G" for ground and it should indeed be grounded to the block. HOWEVER -- if this happens to be a solenoid for something other than an outboard it may be a ballast resistor bypass and for outboard use would not be used. Since we have no idea what engine you are talking about -- the real answer is "I don't know".
