I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to wiring a fish finder. I'm confused with the different wire colors I hv:grn,blu,orng,2yellw,blk and red. I'm trying to save money and hook it up my self. The transducer cord is very long so i can wire it to the back of the transom, but the power cord is very short. Do i add wire to the power cord to reach the battery? It's a Lowrance HD model by the way.

model number?

No owners manual?

You need to run a power feed and a ground wire from the battery to the helm area. It must have an inline fuse or be attached to a fuse block.

Installation manuals are online at :
http://www.lowrance.com/en/Downloads/Manuals/

If this is to be used as a stand alone unit, not wired into a navigation, gps, or radio system, you will only use the 3 wire power cable.

Power cable (3 wire) contains red- black - yelo wires.

Red is hooked to the fused power lead from the battery.
Black is hooked to the ground.
Yellow is unused.

The 5 wire data cable (5 wire) is unused.

Hey Roscoe, your right from what I found out today. The manual really doesnt go into detail. Now I just bought the sturture scan and it has a blk, red, yellow. Now would I connect the yellow wire from HDS to my SScan yellow wire? It keeps referring to "wake" which i hv no clue. The SScan says to feed the yellow wire to switch on my console but doesnt give any details. Major help please!!!
