Going to install a new HDS-5 unit. With this sonar or any other unit for that matter, is it best to connect the power directly to the battery? I was looking at my switch panel that has toggle switches for the navigation lights, anchor light, blower, horn, and 3 more unused switches labeled "Accessory".
These switches are all fused and I'm wondering if I can just connect the power for the sonar/gps unit to one of the unused "accessory" switches. Running the power to the battery at the back of the boat is not a real big deal, but if I can use the existing switch, it is only about a foot away from where I'll be mounting the sonar/gps.
