Remove you thermostat, remove remaining pieces of impeller, install a new thermostat kit. Cheap and easy to do.

^^this. I dont understand why the mechanic didnt know to check this. those pieces will either be loitering around behind the t-stat or the other likely place is down in the bottom of the block where rust likes to settle.

Sorry that you're having problems with the boat. But man.....you saw the condition of the boat before you made the deal. I'd have turned around and gone back home if the boat had been mis-represented. But now that you have it I hope it runs well after your repairs and you and your wife can enjoy it.

I was gonna say something like this yesterday but was unable to put it so eloquently and my mother always told me if I didn't have anything nice to say......... :p

After reading where the the mechanic spent time to get what pieces he could out then the $ amount seems fair, and my feeling is he earned an atta boy for it. Listen to him, he seems to have the experience you need right now.

Until you ride a jap bike that makes your H-D seem like the heavy pig that it is. lol :)

Had a "Jap bike" for 6 weeks and hated it. Sold it to get the Harley and never looked back. The Harley is heavy at 640 lbs, but sure feels a lot better than riding a chain saw with wheels. And I don't feel like Quasi Moto after riding for an hour.... Plus, I never intend to do over 100 mph or get there in 4 seconds flat. Different stroke for different folks, I guess. Enjoy your rice rocket.

I wasn't referring to crotch rockets. I was speaking in terms of comparable cruisers, so no Quasi Moto, lol.

Re: Sorry I have a boat.......

Got out on the lake today for 5 hours and the boat ran PERFECT !!!!! My wife and I have no children but we invited a friends family w/ 3 kids. They tubed 'till they were "tubed" out !!!! Exhausted. We had a blast , the boat, again, ran perfect. Temp stayed about 160, the 350 mag had plenty of power, even with 7 of us in it and after I get it cleaned, it'll be great. The oxidation is terrible and interior filthy, but it will all look great when done. Buff and wax, clean interior, it has NO rips and minimal mold/mildew, and I mean minimal. So, my nerves have settled and I look forward to the time we have left here in North Carolina to boat before putting her away. It still needs some other stuff, but she'll sure be sweet when done. After 12 years or so with no boat, it NOW good to be back. I've put $700.00 in tires and this repair and it needs another few hundred in stuff right away, but I'm OK with it.
Oh, and I have another Harley, the one I traded was my extra bike, I LOVE to ride, it's my first love, boating won't replace it, but it's great to have both.
Can you see me smiling ?

Glad to hear it teacher. I'm sure it won't be long until the guys who lectured you for being taken come back to apologize. Wait. What's that noise? Kind of chirpy.... Maybe someone can identify it for me.......:p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQFEY9RIRJA

Re: Sorry I have a boat.......

I'm VERY glad things worked out for the OP... but I agree with those who chastised him (and none of it was mean, btw- kudos). IMO the OP made 2 major errors, which hopefully will be a lesson to others:

1. He went through with the deal despite his misgivings.
2. He referred to the seller as a 'crook' when it was his own impatience/impetuous behavior that led him to complete the deal in the first place.

Again, happy it all worked out well.

Hey Teach,

Glad all worked well for ya and you are enjoying the boat (and your "backup" scooter). Again, maybe Karma will work it's wonders. Don't listen to all those with the "holier than thou" attitude. I guess we can't all be perfect like they are, just only human. Some of us need to wait for the right (for us) deal to come along to aquire what we desire, even though it may not be considered perfect by some. Kind of like the junk yard guy where everything you have is junk and wothless, should be just given to him so he can "just take it off your hands for you", and everything he has is worth new MSRP less 10%.

Cheers

Hey JoLin,
Don't get me wrong, the guy was a crook, liar, whatever you want to call a guy that told me the boat ran great, he just had it out last weekend, when in fact there is 1/3rd of ONE fin on the ENTIRE impeller. Told me the tires were great, no problem, when in fact they were dry rotted and cracked the entire 360 degree's and some of the dry rot was 2 inches wide !!! Sent me pics of the outdrive in mint shape, then showed up with a "skeg cover" on it to cover the damage done when he trailered it up the launch without raising the outdrive, WHICH he admitted.
My mistake....taking a man at his word, not walking away, letting impatience rule me. I'd like to say, never again, but who knows, I will say, HOPEFULLY never again !

And thanks to all for your words good or otherwise, I didn't feel chastised by anyone, believe me, I'm harder on myself for trading than anyone else will ever be.
Peace !
