OMG, quite incredible what you guys are going through. We've been watching the video coverage from several news sources for the past few days. Looks like Brisbane is taking a hit as we speak. Good luck to you guys and stay safe. Keep us posted. Our thoughts are with you.

Thanks Plainsman. The clean up is going well, soon we'll be able to ship from our warehouse and start earning some money again! Cheers,

I can't help but think how tough this is going to be on the Australian economy. They say the costs of the rebuilding are going to eclipse anything since the 2nd World War....wow, thats a chunk of money.....let alone the immense damage and prevailing conditions that people are having to deal with right now.
Hopefully there will be a silver lining for Kiwi Phil in the need for his companies product.
Again, hang in there guys!!

Re: Spare a thought for flood victims in Australia

We are having a difficult time.
Had to lay off the staff,
The Diustribution Centre I supply went completely under.
Only basic produce being supplied to Supermarkets.
It is a real tripple whammy - no income - plus as I don't know when I will re-supply so reducing imputs now, which equates to zero income in 6 weeks when I have no stock, and on top of that, me, the wife and kid are working a bit to ditch overgrown stock plus try and prune/cut back/save what we can etc.
It is a bit of a worry.
In my mind, the flooding of Ipswich and Brisbane City was a man-made event.
Brisbane is on a flood plain and they have procrastinated and used it as a political football for years over increasing their mitigation program (have one dam in, but have always needed 3). The standing joke is, " you will only get flood insurance if you can't get flooded".
It is that obvious-bad.
I think our Premier Ms Anna Bligh (leader of State Govt) did an absulutely fantastic job, and has proved to probably be one of the finest leaders our nation has had in generations. (Don't like her party tho).
Our infrastructure has been badly damaged. I don't think the average man understand that.
It will cost billions $ and take years to recover, and because our leaders listen to the nay-sayers, it will happen all over again in the future.
We have roads that can't take trucks, and others that have 25mph (40kph) restriction, and they are supply routes.

So Plan A ain't working, and Plan B & C don't look like being options, which leaves me and the wife planning out Plan D & E, while we only have time to talk about just before 'lights out'.

We'll be right.
Cheers
Phillip

Hey Phil,

Sorry to hear it's affecting you so badly. Here on the bayside we're all fine, but the shops have got very little fresh produce. PM me if there's anything I can do to help, I've got a ute you can borrow if need be... in the mean time I hope Plan D works for you!

Mark.

Re: Spare a thought for flood victims in Australia

As one who has been there, done that, have the T-shirt, ball cap and the generator still sittin' on the back porch - hang in there, mate.

Recovery from major flooding takes a very long time. There are months of trucks everywhere, carrying refuse off of streets, out of houses, etc. That is followed by an influx in people looking to make money off of it somehow, lots of good people, lots of bad people, uncertainty, determination and so on. In the end, however, you get through it, just because you have no other choice.

One issue that I never would have thought of, but sure had to deal with, is constant problems with nails in my tires. There was so much roofing work going on here in New Orleans, that there were nails everywhere. They were all the old nails, which came out of the roofs, along with remaining shingles. The lady who owns the tire repair shop near me, was working 14 hours a day, every day for a couple of years after Katrina. She and her son, now have about 3 or 4 shops, including a brand new building!

Who knows, mayb I'll figure out a way to get down to your area to help. Always wondered what vegemite tastes like!

How's plan #D coming Phil???, anyway of getting your produce to market, can TII find you some buyers for your produce were he is?

Hang on, hold tight, sounds like this is going to be a bumpy ride for awhile.
