gentlemen I picked up my boat at the begining of this season im pretty happy with it

17ft fiberglass fish n ski with mercury 115 hp inline six it came with a s/s prop i dont know the pitch as the prop is not marked it seems to work well 5300 rpm 43 mph wot I am thinking i need to get a spare prop, nothing fancy just a back up plan, however i am clueless as what to get ? also while i have your attention this motor has a huge hydro-foil .what purpose do these serve, maybe keep the bow down a bit ? What will change if i delete it personaly I think it looks kinda dumb back there.

Re: spare prop

It's generally accepted that the hydrofoil will make the boat plane off faster and stay on plane at a slower speed.

The trouble is; there are all different shapes and sizes of hydrofoils. One is pretty good; most are horrible.

Taking it off will possibly raise your top speed by several mph(if it's what I think it is. The good one is not huge). But it may not plane off quite as fast.

Your WOT rpm of 5300 sounds fine, as the in line 6 115 rpm range is about 5000-5500. You may have to remove the prop to find the size markings. Sometimes they are on the hub under the prop nut and washer.

Good old JB Weld works fine. Sand smooth and paint, and you'll never know they were there. :)
