Engine quit on me yesterday. Pulled off engine cover and had buddy crank the engine. Noticed a sparking/arcing between the coil wire cover and the coil. Pulled it off and reseated it and worked fine. But I'm going to get a new set of wires anyway.
Problem is local boat shop is out of wires and I don't want to cancel an outting for Friday waiting on mail-order.
Can I go to local auto store and use car wires on my V-8?

Finding wires with the correct ends for the Thunderbolt distributor cap may be the only problem, Check with NAPA, they normally carry the Sierra brand of marine parts and includes wire sets.

Put in a new set of plugs while your at it. Worn plugs cause high resistance and the spark may find an easier path to ground outside the combustion chamber.

Aint that the truth Dave... i just went through a mini-nightmare with a dealer over my GF's 06 beetle.... long story short. Car melted a coil pretty much in half (stick coil). dealer replaced the coil, decided it wasn't in warranty. didn't change the plug associated with the coil. Melted coil again. (ecu shuts down when it happens so car needs a tow) replaced coil again for free this time. GF asks me to look at it... it's had a bad plug that was the root of the problem all along. I changed the plug, alls good.

Put in brand new plugs a week ago. I've been trying to find a car part equivalent for the thunderbolt ignition plug wires, but no luck. Anyone have a way to cross-ref the part#?

ANY wires that fit Chevy small block HEI cap under header applications will fit.
