I have the flywheel off of my '57 gale buccaneer 25hp motor and i don't see how to get the spark plug wires off to change them. They seem to go under the plate where the coils sit. does anyone have a diagram on how to change them?

I was taking off my carborater and noticed a cylinoid looking thing that had, I think a vacuume line to the power head, and one electical wire to it. no linkage attatched to it. It was, if facing the carb, just to the right of the fuel filter. what is that for?

Re: spark plug wires

The wires are clamped to the bottom of the armature plate, so you have to remove the plate from the motor to get at the clamps. It is also a heck of a lot easier and better if you remove the coils so you can make sure the wire goes all the way in and is pierced by the pin which is down inside the hole. The wires just push into the coil, and are pierced by the mentioned pin for electrical contact.

The other thing is a vacuum cut-out switch. Without it, the motor will run wild and won't slow down if perchance you should over-rev it in a no-load condition, such as in neutral or breaking a shear pin. The vacuum cut-out senses such a condition and grounds out one set of points till the motor slows down to normal rpm.
