I have a Spartan roller trailer for my 16' Alumacraft . attached are pictures of the Original way (Org pics) is sits when i purchased it (used) first 2 Pics are the way it was when i bought it. / Last 3 Pics are what happens when this roller flops backwards..
Org2.jpg Org1.jpg Bad3.jpg Bad1.jpg Bad2.jpg

Occasionally , this roller set falls backwards in the water prior to loading the boat at the launch. (bad pics) then the keel sits on the tongue closer to the bow stop.
this roller is situated just prior to the A-frame & Tongue connection.
I'm not quite sure if this is even an original part or not. the actual rubber rollers match the rear rollers.& the paint/age of this part seems to look consistent.

Question: anyone familiar with this roller setup and where it might normally be positioned? thinking maybe it broke off at one point & was MacGyver'd in place....

thoughts?

I don't think that is original to the trailer, I've never ever seen that type of roller set up that far forward on any boat trailer. I'll bet you a 6 pack what should be there is a different bracket and a single rubber keel roller, ya know the ones that are about 6 inches long and each side has a larger diameter than the middle.
The roller set you have there doesn't help guide the boat straight to the winch stand, the correct keel roller will keep the boat more centered on the trailer.

I could be wrong, but look at any boat trailer and you'll see what roller I'm talking about.
