So i decided i want to go ahead and install a stereo in my boat. My question is, would 2 6 1/2 Marine speakers powered by a 52x4 head unit do the trick? or should i go with 4 speakers. its going into a 18' fish n ski

Re: Speaker Question

Probably better off with four, that way you have balanced sound throughout your boat, otherwise you would have to turn the volume louder to hear it the same in different areas of the boat, I know that sounds messed up but hopefully you understand what I am feebly trying to say

Re: Speaker Question

I understand what you are trying to say i had the same thought. But, my problem is there really is not a great place to mount the speakers anywhere behind the windshield. So my thoughts were mount 2 in the walk threw area where the windshield is and possibly 2 in the front kinda where the trolling motor access panels are. I've been brain storming this for a while because i'm hesitant to cut holes in my boat lol

Heres some pics of what i'm talking about i did my best to circle in red the places where i was thinking about putting them.

And this last one is a shot of where i was possibly thinking about putting them but behind the upholstery there is foam so i don't know if i should cut into that or not. And where the X is there is now currently cup holders and on the opposite side is where the gear shift is so it would just look awkward.

Re: Speaker Question

I agree with using the 4 speakers for better sound. We installed only 2 speakers in my dad's Chris Craft as a kid and it was hard to hear the music whil in the back of the boat near the swim deck.

Re: Speaker Question

I'd actually go with 6! That is an ideal number for a typical bowrider. 2 up front, 2 midship, and 2 in the rear. As someone else mentioned, the point isn't turn have a loud boat, its to make it quieter! With each pair of additional speakers, the volume can be turned down because your ears are closer to the source.

Excellent advice to the OP. Wish everyone would pay attention to it.
