Unplug and dunk !!!! then dunk, load and re-plug. Good Luck and looking forward to hearing the results.

And for the others who are quarreling amongst themselves here. Please don't.

upon looking closer at your picture I don't see any cracking in the globe and the "water" inside looks blue so it MAY not just be water... maybe soapy from a pressure washer or who knows..... I've never seen lake water that wasn't clear, brown, or green... algae maybe?.. pretty odd... might be as mentioned above, a defective bulb that actually leaks at the base? even more odd that you have two the same.... Make sure you are using name brand bulbs and not some cheap chinese bulb but otherwise you SHOULD be fine..... if after getting good bulbs in you still have issues, look at your wiring for bare spots.

I believe the color of the water is just the water reacting with the filament material.

I wonder it that reaction could cause it to become more conductive over time?

I think I'd like to get my hands on one of the bulbs and do some testing......

As mentioned earlier in the thread, the light housings are probably designed to be mostly sealed and keep the water out, Bell Jar affect as UncleWilly said.

I've had those type of light housings and they did a poor job of keeping the water out as the foam gasket didn't seal. Applying RTV (silicone) around the lens sealing surface and screwing the len(s) back on solved the problem. If you need to replace a bulb, the silicone seal is easy to break free.

Re: Special Trailer Light Bulbs..?

Fried 1 bulb in a lot of years dunking when I forgot to unplug and was reversing down a really long ramp using the brakes most of the way. My lights leak like a sieve and always have done !!! The faster it gets in the faster it gets out and dries off. If I ever have to replace it will certainly be with LED's as have been suggested. Fresh water use only for me though and unplugging before dunking (except that once :D)
Just my thoughts and experiences though. Certainly not saying any of the other posts are wrong.

yeah I kinda figured that's what would happen..... Unless you find obvious damage in one spot from say a wire getting smashed in the hitch, make your life easier and just go buy a wiring kit n redo the whole trailer.... STRONGLY suggest led's at the same time, you WON'T regret it

Kinda figured that was gonna happen.... Ya might consider just picking up an led kit with new wiring... You can get em at harbor freight for cheap and you knock it all out at once n upgrade to better lights at the same time.

Those Harbor Freight LED lights are carp.... (what do ya' expect from HF)... I had a set and they burned out, the board wasn't encapsulated and water corroded the components on the board. I bought another set from BPS (Blazer???)that had the board encapsulated and they have been working fine for a couple years.

Re: Special Trailer Light Bulbs..?

I've had half a dozen harbor freight sets and have had GREAT luck w em... The only issues I've had is that TWICE I've had my trailer hit at the boat ramp and was REALLY happy they were so cheap to replace... seems odd to me that you had bad luck

Heck my carver's ezloader had em and that summer I launched at least twice and sometimes 5 or more times a week for 8-9 months... never once unplugged at the ramp either

Limit: the replacement bulbs are hit n miss.. some of em do pretty well and I have several of em in my bmw and on boats but I don't think any of em are sealed to be submerged.... probably not too good for boat trailers
