i just used a regular zip tie. on top of the oem clamp as it turns out. i put them side by side, but it worked its way on top of the clamp. the zip lock tie is to the outside.... i put the zip tie there as i felt this was where i had my water intrusion at..... just trying to make sure i gave it the best chance for not reoccurring after shift cable and shift cable bellows replacement....

I believe what you are referring to is a low profile cable tie. It conforms to a circle a lot better than the traditional ties do.

ziggy, I don't use the cable ties. I use the metal clamp that is provided with the replacement boots. While they can be a pain, they are pretty much permanent when installed/crimped correctly.

that to me is the question. i did have trouble crimping that clamp. various different plieres to no avail. i just didn't feel i got it clamped on the best i could. hence why i put the zip tie on..... do you use a special tool? locate the clamp in a certain way to then crimp it down?

ziggy it doesn't take much crimping. I use a pair of battery cable crimpers to crimp down on the clamp a little, works great.

The clamp that come with them is steel, in salt water, they don't last very long. The cable ties he is referring to are used for fuel lines by Mercury. Part number is 54-816311T
