Re: Specification for evinrude5

I found a 2000 Evinrude 4 stroke 5 hp.
7.8 cu. in. 1 cylinder, 5,000-6,000 rpm,68 lbs.2.23:1 gear ratio,fnr gears.
I wouldn't be surprised if a subcontractor built it for Evinrude.But I couldn't find a match.

Heads up on 1 cylinder. You ainna gonna like it if you ever had a twin or higher.....read it and weep, sorry, but facts are facts. If you don't believe me go and rent one and see for yourself before you shell out your cash.

The problem with a single is lack of an adequate flywheel for smooth performance due to the weight associated with it. OMC realized this years ago and if you'll notice (www.old-omc.de) all of their engines from as low as 3 hp (smallest they made at the time) were alternate firing twins. BTDT and will never have another. One was a really stellar 4 hp red band Merc that was in pristeen condition.

I have to agree.I over looked the single cylinder.
A twin is the only way to go.
Allmost any brand will serve.A 2 stroke Evinrude or Johnson is probably more do it yourself friendly.

Hey "CAPT" Steele. Notice that you added a band to your board.

Congrats.
