We will be getting our boat from the mech tomorrow. We just bought a 1975 ski barge with a 1978 johnson 115 motor. My son and I are wondering if any one can tell us 1# how fast will this thing go and 2# how much fuel will it consume.Hopefully we will test it out this coming weekend but are still curious on the above questions. Thanks for all your help and let you know this is a teriffic sight..

Re: speed and gas consumption

Ruffis - can't help you out with speed information but a "very general rule of thumb for fuel consumption for a 2 cycle outboard" is take the horsepower of the outboard and move the decimal one position to the left and that is how many gallons of fuel you will burn per hour a wide open throttle. Exp: 150 hp = 15.0 galsl/hr at WOT - 115 hp = 11.5 gals/hr at WOT - 225 hp = 22.5 gal/hr at WOT. Like I said this is a very general rule of thumb and there are many varibles that will affect your gas consumption but this should give you a baseline.

It is 6ft wide and a flat bottom boat. Also thanks for your answers.

6' with a flat bottom should fly with a 115 on it! I would say at least 40+ and less than 10 Gal. an hour WOT, depending on weight and load in the boat.
