Can anyone tell me why my speedometer doesn't working correctly. It shows I'm doing 45mph, but I am going much faster when clocked with another boat.

Re: Speedometer

take out your speedometer tube that goes into your engine and clean. make sure there are no obstructions or a little bit of dirt clogging the hole. there should be a little hole at the bottom of the motor that can get clogged also.

Re: Speedometer

My Yamaha 150 intake hole was clogged pretty seriously; pliers, needle, awl and attempting to force air from the gauge end of the tube just wouldn't get it so I took a very small drill bit in a battery powered drill and very carefully removed the crap packed in there. Then blew through the gauge end with the shop compressor and that freed up the restrictions completely.
I now carry that small drill bit in my tackle box and use it every time I leave the lake whether I had trouble with the speedometer or not.
No problems since.

If it don't smell like fish... it ain't worth messin' with.

Re: Speedometer

The pickup also pivots. It could be "up". It should be parallel with the transom.
