I am installing a spin on water / oil filter on my fuel line to catch anything coming from my tank. I have a 175 evinrude 1992 model and I am finding black oily something inside the cone shaped screen filter in my powerhead after going for a trip to the lake. I am also installing a new fuel line and bulb. My Question is that if I am mixing my oil and gas in the tank will this 10 micron filter be catching my oil and filtering it from my gas? The motor has just been rebuilt and I am mixing my gas for the breakin. I know alot of guys who mix their gas a little in addition to using their VRO so as to add some protection if the VRO fails. I am curious to know if the oil will be filtered out and be rendered as useless. Any help ???

Re: spin on filter

the oil will be fine. you motor has the VRO2 mix system which is OK, the newer OMS pump is more reliable. black gunk, possible fuel line deterioration, replace all lines with alcohol resistant fuel lines. ethanol eats rubber.
