Spinning reels

I remember my grandfather had a rod made of steel. I don’t know what ever happened to it but if I remember correctly it was an octagon shape.
Have you ever seen one of those? If so I’m just curious what vintage it may have been.

While scrounging around for old motorcycle parts in an old barn I found one of those rods. Had a reel on it as well. Think it was called a king. Was pretty neat but did have surface rust. Gave it to a guy I worked with.

Got my 4000 in yesterday, about 90% new quality so happy there, 31 bucks with shipping. Fun story, my last name is mckeehan which of course is not common and the sellers is the same... I'm 99% sure I bid 43 bucks plus shipping for it, but at 31 the story im telling myself is he saw my name and just gave it to me a penny over other best bid.

I now have three sizes shimano reels and as of tomorrow morning will have a 5, 6 and 7 foot ugly stick to match them with. Also have a baitcaster set up and a pink zebco 33 setup for the wife I bought her when we were first together about 20 years ago (she had never fished). Two ocean quality spinning sets I drunk bought at Dicks while on one of my Tampa runs visiting my brother from another mother. Never used. Another two ocean trolling rigs given to me by a dear friend when he passed (endoman for any old tht'ers around here) one being one of the three guests set for his boat and one being his personal one that he had custom made with gold inlay. I have it on the wall in my office. Not sure I can ever take it out and use it. I know he would tell be to stfu and take it out and beat the hell out of it but just can't. Man i miss him.

Happier note, we have two fake grandkids across the road and they have an absent grandpa, a grandma that might could and a part time dad that is not a good human so we have stepped in for those roles. I've put up pics of us on the boat and such. Anyway in an effort to have them be able to easily hit the lake or river to fish with mom if I'm not avail, for Christmas I got each one of them a classic Ron Popeil pocket fisherman.

Realizing I've not really fished much since my early 30s. From a kid to then it was pretty much my life but since it has been a worm or dock fishing for crappie or whatever every few years so I am discovering I don't know much and when gathering up all my gear I mostly had crap reels and poles from garage sales over the years so I donated all that but one Shimano and went to wally world to get an ugly stick.

Im a medium to light kinda guy and one thing I hate on a spinning reel is wobble when reeling. Shimano used to be the one but who knows now. Newrest bass pro is hour drive so not wanting g to do that was spoiled I worked a mile from the OG Bass Pro in Springfield mo.

Anyway, what are the good brands now and for those that use spinners what has no wobble?

Welcome back! For a rock-solid spinner with zero wobble, you can't go wrong with a Shimano Sedona or a Daiwa Regal. They're both fantastic value and will feel great on your Ugly Stik.

Well im loaded up now with the shimano, two sidestab and one soltace that I already had. Three new poles to go with them so can't get more for a year or so when the wife forgets about those.

Finally got them stored properly. Extra holes filled with my bell hanger bits, paint poles, and a few other miscellaneous stick tupe things. I tried storing my bar clamps but apparently too heavy.
