This is a curiosity more than anything important. I've noticed a thin layer of what appears to be axle grease covering some (but not all) of the engine. For example, there is some on two of the carburetor covers, but not the third. It sort of looks like someone deliberately sprayed some lubricant on parts of the engine and got overspray on some other parts. It occurred to me that it could residual oil from past spilled fuel, or overspray from lubing moving parts, or something intended to fight water intrusion into the electrics. .... Does anyone know of a spray product routinely used by outboard mechanics that would leave a thin axle grease like residue? If it's there for a purpose, I'll just leave it. Otherwise, I might clean up some of it.
