Spun my Hub

After reading about others having spun their hubs on their props for years it finally happened to me today on my QD19. Only got home at half speed. But at least I knew exactly what it was. I have spares at home so not an issue but my question is: I believe only a shop can fix it correct? Is it worth it for them to do it? What's the typical cost? Is there anything I can do myself to it? What is the actual process to repair it? thx.

Re: Spun my Hub

Only a shop can do it. It involves "spinning" a new hub in. The hub is rotated as it is pressed in with a hydraulic press.
I don't know what the charge would be, but it probably would be a better deal to just buy a new prop on a small motor like that.

Extra prop at home ? Not doing much good there. Carry an extra prop , nut, and pin on every trip. Hate to get lost out in the middle of nowhere.

I was wondering if the hub could be welded to the prop... it's not like I really need the rubber hub... got a shear pin in there also... could it cause problems?

Don't do that!! The advertized purpose of the shock hub is to protect from damage from hitting rocks. The un-advertized purpose of the shock hub is to protect from damage when shifting gears. With no shock hub, you might as well hit the clutch dog and gear with a hammer.

I've taken a prop with a spun hub and drilled it and installed roll pins to lock it together. but I agree with FR, it also serves as a cushion. This prop is only going to be used in extreme emergencies, and is stored on the boat at all times.
