squilling noise when adjusting tilt/trim

Sometimes when I'm plaining theres a squilling noise. If I decelerate it stops and I may not here it again for awhile. This boat is a 88 glasstream 2.3 litre. I took it out for the 1st time today. Also while tinkering whith this boat at my house ,I never had any problems with it shifting into reverse. But today while in the water I had to pull very hard on throttle to get it to go. Then had to push very hard to get it to go back into forward. Once on shore I was able to shift fine again. Was wonder how to check the fluid for tilt? Theres a flat head screw middle ways but Im not sure.

Sounds like you may have some problems with the ESA system (assuming you have a Cobra drive). It may not be working which makes it very hard (and hard on the gears in the drive) to get it out of gear.<br />Here is a link to a LOT of information on the ESA and shifting of the OMC Cobra drive.<br /> http://www.hastings.org/~stuart/cobra/index.html <br /><br />The squeeling noise may be from a loose alternator belt. The trim pump pulls a lot of power.

Try getting your RPM's down to about 600 - 650.This gearcase loves to stay in gear. <br />Flat screw sounds right.Fill to the bottom of the hole,with the drive down all the way.<br />Replace and tighten the alterntor belt.<br /><br />DHP

Thanks guys for the advice. Never thought abought the alternator belt, but your probably right cause I had noticed the belt bouncing while tinkering.

If the belt is loose, check the pulleys. If they are all rusty they will eat up a belt in short order. They would need to be cleaned up, sanded smooth and painted. Then the belts will last.
