Any problems using seafoam or similiar product, in a tank that has a gas stabilizer, such as stabil, already in the tank?

Thanks!

Nothing that I can think of as far as actual problems. Just remember that you are deluting your fuel with everything you put in it. If you want to perform a decarb, then I would recommend using another auxilary tank to do it.

Re: Stabil and Seafoam at the same time

Well, I have stabil in the tanks already and that prompted the question. I have no problem using a separate tank for decarb. I usually use a can through the system once during the year just to keep the fuel system clean. Besides the annual decarb that is.

Thanks!

The main ingredient in Stabil is Naptha (95%).
The ingredients of Seafoam are naptha, iso alcohol, and oil.
No problem mixxing the two.

Interesting
I was once told that many of the old-timers decarbed using water in days gone by, with no problems to boot ;)

This is absolutly true on a four stroke, (It only takes the carbon off the top of the pistons and valves), but dont even think about it on a 2 cycle. The last place you want water is on you rod and main bearings!

LD, To my knowledge they decarbed their two stroke outboard motors using water, i have never seen it done but my understanding is that there is some technique involved.
Perhaps JB or some of the older members may care to comment on this method of decarbing, However it is definitely not something which i am ever going to attempt to do.

Roscoe, are you saying that basically Stabil and Seafoam are the same thing? Where did you get the 95% Naphtha figure from?

Ingredients from MSDS/Label, gov website.

http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/household/brands?tbl=brands&id=7006001

Bottom of page.

Something else to look at:

If you click the napth/mineral oil link at the bottom of that page, it takes you to a listing of other products that contain naptha, and the percentage it plays in its make up.

http://householdproducts.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/household/brands?tbl=chem&id=171

Gumout engine flush is 80-90% naptha.

DAMN...ya know, I forgot about those MSDS sheets...I remember when they first started out with us getting them at work. Just more paper to me, but now I realize something...........
NO MORE SECRETS! Thanks for the links, and I'm out to buy a gallon of Naphta, or how ever its spelled!

Does anyone have a clue of some of what these "Trade Secret" stuff might just be? I know Stabil has a weird smell. I need to get some naphtha and a little oil, a pint of gas, and another just plain gas...see whats happens in a couple months, year.

Can't be much of a chemical, or it would have to be listed on the MSDS.
