I have an 05 doral monticello, looking for a stainless anchor for the boat with pwr windlass . 28LOA 6400lb dry. What size anchor am I looking for? Know where to look for some deals? Doral had a price of freakin $1500 for an anchor. So not going that route.

Re: stainless anchor

stainless on an anchor is a complete waste of money. galvanized will last just as long, 1/3 the price. unless, you are a show off.

Fluke anchors here http://www.iboats.com/Fluke_Anchors/dm/*******.140294010--**********.609035332--view_id.238311

Windlass (electric) here http://www.iboats.com/Electric_Boat...0294010--**********.609035332--view_id.238323

Now depending on where you boat and the prevailing wind + you boat size and weight will determine the size. I doubt stainless would be required since the galvanized work fine. If you are concerned about looks there are options to get them pvc coated.....or you could even have one plated.

The majority of your investment is the windlass.

Re: stainless anchor

The boat came with the pwr windlass. Bought Doral as a repo from a bank brand new but it didn't come with an anchor. OEM anchor is stainless for a little bling factor :) But not at 1500 bucks from Doral. I'm sure they are much cheaper aftermarket.

SS chain? nah, I'm going with GOLD chain! Over $1000 an ounce now! hehe.

Thanks for the links and info.

Ebay is an excellent source of inexpensive SS anchors. I'd use a 22 lb on that size boat.

Re: stainless anchor

Main water anchoring in would be Lake Minnetonka in MN. Anchoring prob mostly in 5-25 feet max. Bottom is areas of sand, muck, rocks, plenty of weeds if that makes a difference in the type/size of anchor to get. What the rule of thumb for amount of chain and rope?

Other anchoring may be on St Croix River but probably mostly tying up on a sandy shore.

Re: stainless anchor

anchor line should be 3 X's the depth of water you plan to anchor in...

Yup. I bought a new 33# POLISHED stainless steel plow anchor on ebay for $350. I upgraded from a 22 pounder and added the 'bling'. I've had it for 2 summers now and it's worked flawlessly and still looks great!
