I just bought two new stainless steel thermostats for my V6 88' Black Max. My initial though was, whoa the stainless steal thermostats probably last longer. Now thinking about it, stainless steel in aluminum with salt water....was this a bad decision. Comments?

Thanks-
andy

I use the brass vented ones from sierra. if the poppets are the self flusing type they need a vent cut in the poppet.

I sorry, I am a little confused with what you said (definitely an inexperience issue), can you explain more. What are the poppets? Are they the springs that cause the thermostat to open? Certainly you are not talking about the poppet valve, right?

With stainless steel I was worrying about them seizing to the aluminum.

-andy

The stats are sitting in a rubber cup/seal so I don't see dissimilar metals being an issue. Having siad that I've never had a stat fail from corrosion so I don't know what you would buy with a SS stat. Typcially it's the springs that get weak that send them to the dump.

True, true. They were only 2 bucks more apiece and like I said I wasn't really thinking. But good to know that it shouldn't be a problem

-thanks
andy
