I have a 18' Aluminum hull that needs a new transom and was wondering if starboard would be better than plywood?

I figured by the time I got finished with marine grade plywood and all the glass and resin it wouldn't be that much more expensive than just using starboard.

aluminum boat, just use Exterior Grade Plywood, 3 coats of Oil bases paint. it will last as long.

I used it for a guage cluster and it worked great but I dont think that it would be economical or strong enough. I am pretty sure that it will flex way to much besides the Starcraft guys around here have transom replacements down pat. Why reinvent the wheel? Just do a quick search on Starcraft transom.

It definately is cool stuff and would solve the rotting problem. I'm probably going to do some of my dash/ladder in it.

I'm not sure how it would hold up to stress and pressure points as plywood always has some give to it and it is almost impossible to crack when it is laminated in the right thickness. All those layers of different plys makes it almost indestructable compared to a solid product.

I stuck with plywood but like you the thought did briefly cross my mind.
