Re: Clear hose / Volume Test PLEASE EXPLAIN

Ayuh,... Didn't I already ask you, on another thread whether the T-stat housing is from the 1990, or the 2005 motor,..??
I've read that you take off the 2 large hoses on the thermostat,

What 2 hoses,.... Pictures....

OK, I merged all three related and considered a fourth.

Johnny, to Be Cool :p , what you can do is edit the title to show that you are adding an "Update". This way those whoa are following, or helping, can get a complete rundown in one place. Good luck!!

Bondo-o, QC and everyone. I'm sorry :( for the mix up. I thought others were not interested and dropped the conversation. I'm going through a lot of money without solving the problem (shop), therefore I too have to do some investigation. I do appreciate everyones input and opinion. Thus far this site has helped me in a number of concerns. THANK YOU!!!!!

Bondo-o, to answer your question. The motor was replaced in 2005 by the prior owner (3 since then). I do not know what was done. I'm enclosing 2 pictures of the housing. I think if it was wrong, it would of been discovered by now.

The unit needs a thermostat. If the risers and manifolds are older than 10 years and it has set for any length of time they should be replaced. You can't just replace 1 piece. They all need to be replaced.
There are flappers in the Y pipe that might be restricting the exhaust/water.
When you replace the man/riser,make sure they are working.
Look in the pipes as an older flapper might have melted and fell into it restricting the flow.Remove the drive and look up into the Y pipe.
The gasket between the man/riser the right one?
The water pump impeller ?New ?How about the wear plate and housing.
A worn wear plate will allow it to suck air and not provide enough water.
Running on a hose will not provide enough water to operate this motor for any length of time.J

I have not heard back regarding thermostat installation.

Inspection of the riser and elbow was good. When flappers were replaced they looked for any residual parts from above. Yes, I know the drive will need to be removed to look at the end of the Y-pipe.

It is the correct riser to manifold gasket.

I will suggest wear plate inspection.

Thank you and I appreciate your comments!

Please feel free to advise.

It's almost impossible to tell if a riser/manifold is bad by looking at it.
Take it off(riser) and look at the end where the water comes out.Any build-up?Do the same with the manifold.Pull the plug and check for junk.
Post some pics if you have them.J

Re: Starboard manifold HOT, port COOL (UPDATE)

Bond-o,
You nailed right on the head. Thank you and I take back what I said (only kidding)

Today the mechanic went to install thermostat, He remembered me asking in depth about the check balls. He said he thought that he checked them, but then again it was another customer . So, while the housing was off, he looked and discovered that it had no check balls.

Installed check balls and TS, took it to the lake and it runs 140 degress all around :D

I want to thank everyone for their input, if it wasn't for this website, the mechanic would of still been searching for clues.

Re: Starboard manifold HOT, port COOL (UPDATE)

I heard mention of a simple possibility that hopefully if you have a pro working on it he checked. I had a 3.0 that ran hot like this. Low speed overheat, but she would cool down nice once throttled up. Found a dime size hole worn in the supply hose thru the bell housing. Nice cheap fix, but I'm sure I don't have to mention what a pain in the stern it was to get the new hose on.
