Re: starcraft 1992 cc mr170

Hot topic, but I'm really not a fan of poured in foam for aluminum boats unless it is somehow kept off the hull. We've just seen too much corrosion under that stuff, and poor drainage. I'd go with the pink or blue sheet foam or pool noodles.

Nice rig, that has the reverse chines on the port/starboard seam. Our older models did not have that design but it helps the boat handle even better on turns etc.:)

I'd opt for foam boards, but it's a debatable issue to say the least.

Good luck with the project, and check out the brochures link in my signature for some specs and photos of that boat as it was brand new.

Ok so i guess I'll use pool noodles and the blue foam sheets. I'm going to use marine grade plywood. Should I coat with like spar varnish or epoxy resin.
Also the old plywood was riveted down,so should I rivet it or just use self tapping stainless screws.

Epoxy resin and spar varnish are both acceptable sealing methods. I'd imagine the epoxy is a little more durable/longer lasting but it's up to you. Same goes with the rivets/screws. Many have riveted. I used deck screws on both my projects and it worked out fine.

Ok,So I got the boat flipped over and I'm going the strip it to the aluminum and repaint it. I have it so ripped apart it makes sense to just redo the whole boat. What kind of paint should I use? I know I have to prep it right, vinegar wash and self etching paint. What should I use on some screw holes,JB weld or marine Tex epoxy. I'll post more pics soon.

Re: starcraft 1992 cc mr170

I'm not a fan of the middle of the road paints so in my opinion either go with Rustoleum (which works just fine) or step up to a two-part marine paint. Skip the stuff in the middle. Most of us have been using JB on our holes. On mine, I used little squares of aluminum flashing as a backer for some of the larger ones which seems to have helped prevent the patch from "popping" after it's sanded smooth.

Well, I have been busy and this is what I got up to. Need about one more day and all the prep work will be done and then I have to figure out what I'm going to do with the paint.Anyone have any ideas as to what paint I should use. I really want to use Gluvit on the outside seams,is this good to do?

Gluvit is designed to really go on the inside. But if you do put it on the outside then you will have to paint it as it does not have any UV inhibitors in it. Ez already posted as to what to do for paint, a lot of people have been using Rustoleum and some have been using a hardener with it as well. Otherwise I would do as EZ said and go with a high quality paint.

Well,I got the self etching primer on and then when it cured I wet sanded her and put on a coat of are metal primer. Now she needs to be wet sanded again and put the final coats of rusto on. I desided to se my spray gun that I had sitting in the garage for a few years and never been used. Not as hard as you would think to spray and the job is pretty nice the way it comes out. Here's a couple of pics.

The final coat is done, now let her sit for a week of so and back to the trailer for the fun stuff to begin. Paint the inside and start the transom and floor.

Bob, one thing to consider on the stripiing is that any color other than white will accentuate your last few dents more....white hides surface imperfections, darker colors don't, far extreme is gloss black, which shows EVERYTHING.

i'm jealous of your hull.....it looks beautiful

Ok shes back on the trailer.Just have to paint the top and side rails and start putting the floor back in. I was going to put a new transom in but it looks pretty solid. Don't really have the time or money to do it now. I guess I could do it in a couple of years if it needs it.Will post more pics when I get some more work done on her.

Nice paint job! That tank looks like one I just bought, is it 23 or 19 gallons?
