Hi all,
Brand new here but already reading up on old threads has helped a ton! A neighbor had an old MR180 CC in their driveway for about 15+ years. Last registered in 1992. From the serial number it is a 1984 hull with an Evinrude 50 TL CRM powerplant. (will post pics later when wife comes home with camera.)

The floors and transom are rotted out. I was able to actually shop-vac up the remnants which made it a pretty simple job. After I replaced the spark-pugs and wires, she fired right up!

I am spending quite a bit of time remolishing the rot and getting greasy. So far I have able to get the steering un frozen, the throttle control cleaned and greased, and nav lights working.

Next up is the ugly task of getting new floor boards in. I am going to epoxy .5" exterior ply., held down with ss screws into the stringers and sides.

Questions:
The "sponge" foam under the deck is soaked. Anyone with a tip on getting that out? Can or is their a chemical that can "melt" this stuff out?

Anyone out there have the same motor? I can't seem to find the trim/ tilt motor and the wires are disconnected @ the remote. Is it possible it's missing?

Lastly, I will post progress and I target Labor Day for the re-christening. Don't know if anyone is on task with the same project, but I will take advice. I live near the CT river and think this will make a nice boat once cleaned up.

Welcome. Looking forward to the pics. Getting that foam out is a pain. Pretty much chip away at it with whatever you think of to scrape it out. Are you sure your motor has TnT and not just a control box with a TnT switch?

Re: Starcraft MR180 Rebuild

It seems that a garden trowel (small shovel) works excellent for removing that old water saturated foam. Almost done, then it's off to HD for some pink styro to replace. Then exterior ply with a few coats of epoxy to seal. Should I use fiberglass too, or will just the epoxy be enough?

The engine model has TL CRM as part of the model number. I thought this meant it had tilt and trim. If it turns out is doesn't (which I don't think ti does) can I add it? If so is there a setrain type brand I must use or is the TnT motor/ accessory universal?

Starcraft, good chance the 50 hp didn't have T&T,it is just the throttle can be used on larger motors. You may be able to add one, check with the OB forum, someone there can tell you. And to repeat a famous quote
" I find the lack of pictures disturbing" LOL
Its been days, wife back with camera yet?

Now that is a nice looking boat. Engine looks new enough to find a T&T too. Lucky devil, you don't have to touch the exterior unless you want to.

There were pictures posted recently of the exact same boat all rigged up...very nice project:)

Good luck, you are almost done with the demo phase, then it's real progress:D

Re: Starcraft MR180 Rebuild

I need advise on how to re-lay the new foam board under the new floor. Does the void need to be perfectly filled with this stuff? Should it be layed horizonally or vertically?

Previously the foam was shot in there to create no voids or very few thus never allowing water or dampness to drain to bilge and then out. (Did these guys ever build a boat before?)

Thoughts?

Thanks
