Starer Solinoid Wirering

I have a 1963 Evinrude 28hp , needs a new starter solinoid , it was missing (gone)when I bought the boat.I've been told I can use a Ford solinoid is this true?Does anyone know how to wire the solinoid?

Get the correct solenoid. An automotive solenoid wouldn't last much longer than it took to install it.

Get an OEM Service Manual so you know how to wire it. www.outboardbooks.com

A Ford solenoid looks the same as the correct one, but is NOT the same. You could re-wire the motor to accept it, but you would lose the safety switch feature. If you were to install the Ford part with no modifications, you will instantly destroy the safety switch. Not only that, you will confuse the next guy that goes to work on it. AND the safety switch is part of the vacuum switch circuit so that wouldn't work either. Use the right parts. Available here at iboats.

And besides that they do not cost that much. Use the right one!
