I just had to unstick a 50 hp Johnson Bendix, (starter drive). It's very claen and works fine now, but was wondering if I should put a small amount of some sort of lube on the spiral gears?
This motor is used in saltwater. Thanx, Bob

I just had similar issues... What I have read is to use only WD40 or similar lubricant. The other stuff cause's sticking. Mine works great now with just a shot of the stuff.

WD40 is good for freeing it up and cleaning, but use a few drops of light machine oil like 3 in 1 for the actual lubricant.

What ezeke said. WD-40 is a water displacer and solvent. It is not a good lubricant. I use sewing machine oil after cleaning with WD-40.

Even better, JB, I should have thought of that.

Thanks guys. I'll see if I can get some sewing machine oil. I had been considering some spray
silicone.

Gun oil works well too. I use the remmington oil in a spray can at wal-mart. Its easy to apply just give it a spray. Its not wd-40 , its actual gun oil. Works great.
KYHunter
